After playing High School Basketball in Calgary, Tony went on to play US and Canadian College/ University then ended playing Professional in Asia for 6 years. Since 1997 he developed from combinations of playing to refereeing, and then coaching. He has been coaching for over 15 years - levels ranging from Tyke community, High School, Provincial caliber teams and as high as College/University teams. What makes him good at what he does is not limited to just his coaching experience, but also his ability to understand from various points of view – player, official, and coaching standpoint.

Tony has had a strong involvement with The Calgary Storm Basketball Club. He initially started with coaching boys, then more recently in the last 4 years transitioned to girls for the natural interest to share his passion and develop his kids. His specialty grew from doing personal one on one training, group clinics, and camps. The effectiveness of his programs had been from delivering results through the success of his Girls Basketball Program. He is currently heading the overall development of The Calgary Storm Boys and Girls Basketball Club U13, U14, U15, U17, U19 teams with him being Head Coach for U15 & U17 girls and Coaches Consultant.

Coach Jay is in his 8th year of coaching basketball in Calgary and in his 3rd year with Club Director Tony Tan. Currently, he is coaching in the Calgary high school system and the Head Coach of the Calgary Storm U15 Girls and U13 Boys teams. The Villanueva family is very excited for another great season of Calgary Storm basketball.

Joe started out as a soccer player and only began playing basketball in the seventh grade. However he soon became a standout for his junior and senior high school team. While playing for his junior and senior basketball team, he was a key element in helping those teams contend for city championships. During his high school, College/ University basketball career, Joe was also a member of the Calgary Alberta Basketball team. While playing organizes basketball, Joe played with a love and passion for the game, and even now continues to play on a men's league team. As well, he has also begun his coaching career with the St. Francis girl basketball team in which he is having tremendous success in only his first year.

Carey was born and raised in Calgary. He played all though junior high and high school, helping lead his high school team to 2 Senior High School City Championships with the St. Francis Browns. Carey reentered the basketball community 2 years ago when his daughter showed interest in playing. Over the past two years he has coached the U11 Calwest community team, is the division coordinator for Calwest Basketball, coaches the U11 and U13 Calgary Storm team and is the head coach of the Senior Girls Jr High team at Clearwater Academy. Carey has his CCCC certification along with completing several other coaching clinics including "Respect in Sports".

Carey enjoys coaching players at a younger age and his main goal is to make sure these athletes understand that basketball is a tool to be used to become a better person and teaching responsibility, accountability, respect and teamwork to these players. With 4 children all entering basketball in the next 3 years, Carey is committed to both Calgary Storm and the basketball community and hopes for all his players and kids to enjoy and play the game all the way to the College level.

 

Coach EmilyCoach Emily Slywchuk

Coach Emily is currently in her second year of coaching, with her focus mostly on the younger levels, she is looking forward to another season with Storm working. She currently has her CCCC certification.

An avid player in her youth, Coach Emily hopes to help develop these young players as they begin their basketball careers, so that they have the fundamentals to take the game as far as they would like.

 

Coach DeanCoach Dean Vigon

 

Dean is a native Calgarian whose passion has always been basketball. He played through high school and the college level. He has achieved his first and second level NCCP from Coaching Canada. Dean has spent a number of years coaching both boys and girls in volleyball and basketball at the junior/senior varsity levels. He has had great success in seeing many of his teams play at the City Championships and Provincials. He has spent time doing individual coaching/training with track & field athletes. Many achieved provincial levels and were rewarded with university scholarships. Dean took a break from coaching to get married, start a business, and begin a family. He is very excited to be working with Ballers Academy and the Calgary Storm Basketball Club. He believes that success begins with an athlete’s desire, commitment and determination to excel. Through focused practice and conditioning at high levels of energy games will not only be rewarding events, but will display the hard work each player has put into themselves and their team. Dean is currently coaching with Jay Villanueva on a Girls Sr Varsity HS team. He is excited to be working with his teams to see them advance their basketball skills and continue developing into successful young adults.

 

Coach CindyCoach Cindy Tolley

 

Cindy has been coaching for 12 years. Her basketball career started out at the young age of 4 playing with her older brothers. She played organised basketball all through Jr. and Sr. High School on school and community teams. She led many teams to city championships, most of which she was the captain of. After high school she turned down offers to play post secondary basketball. She started out coaching at a very young age helping out her coach with the teams of players younger than her. A few years later she took over coaching teams on her own. She has coached community teams and school teams ranging from 9 and 10 year olds through 15 to 17 year olds. These teams included several who lost in the city championships and a few who even won. Cindy also holds a National coaching certificate.

 

Coach KevinCoach Kevin Warner

 

Kevin started playing sports at very young age, from baseball, soccer, football and hockey, he didn’t start playing basketball until Junior high, and that’s when he fell in love with the game. Giving up every other sport to focus on his passion,. Kevin went on to play for an Alberta basketball club as well as playing high school ball, college/university and Coaching High School boys/girls. He is continuing to gain more and more knowledge of the game. Everyday is a learning experience, and he will bring all his knowledge forward from being a great player to bring the best out in his players.
